President's Welcome Message
October, 2007
This letter is to express my thanks,
excitement and great pleasure on being elected the 58th President of the Queens
Pediatric Society.
The Queens Pediatric Society, founded in 1947, has been a recognized
organization of local pediatricians for over 60 years. Our bi-monthly
meetings offer members an opportunity for networking and collegiality over
cocktails and dinner, and feature lectures by guest speakers on topics of
interest to members that often foster spirited question-and-answer sessions and
lively discussions.
The officers and members of the various committees that
comprise the Executive Committee of the QPS run the Society and disseminate
information to keep members apprised of important changes in the field and
practice of pediatrics. The Committee maintains close liaisons with the
American Academy of Pediatrics and the District Chapter, as well as city and
state health departments and governments.
I would like to make the QPS more visible in the borough, not
only to pediatricians, but to the community at large. We are planning to
engage in efforts to talk to children and educators in schools about health
issues and to parents, church and civic groups, and business and community
leaders about topics of concern. We are interested in hearing from those
of you who would be willing to participate in these ventures.
Dues for the Society are $150 annually. It seems a small
price for what is offered and it entitles the member to attend the four
dinner/lectures, to participate and vote at business meetings, and to join
committees and become involved in Society endeavors. In addition, it
includes our annual early-June dinner/dance for members and spouses, to be held
this year at Leonard's La Dolce Vita on June 10, 2008.
Our Society offers a delightful way to meet new colleagues,
make new friends, keep abreast of changes in the field, and exchange ideas.
As the current President of the Queens Pediatric Society, I invite you to come
see for yourself. Please join us.
Sincerely,
David Di John, MD, FAAP
