President's Welcome Message
October, 2009
It is a pleasure to have been elected the 59th
President of the Queens Pediatric Society for a 2-year term.
As always, we look forward to attracting as
many practicing pediatricians in the borough of Queens, New York as we can.
We are also aware of the stark realities of practicing medicine these
days and the growing hesitation to leave one’s practice, even for a few times
a year, in order to become involved in the greater pediatric community and lend
one’s professional voice to the concerns about healthcare reform, office
practice, childhood safety and school health, and all the other child health
issues which we, as pediatricians, are most qualified to impact.
The Society is the first level of connection to the American Academy of
Pediatrics as a member of the local Chapter 2 of New York District 2.
As such, our officers and executive committee are the direct
representatives of all of the pediatricians in Queens.
Becoming a member is a relatively small
commitment in time and dues. For
only $150 a year, a member is entitled to 4 general scientific meetings and an
annual dinner/dance for members and spouses usually held in early June.
Most importantly, we encourage members to
become involved, ask questions, offer solutions and participate in the voting
process at our business meetings. We
especially implore our younger generation of pediatricians to become involved,
as the changing environment in healthcare will most impact you.
I invite you to join our Society and help to
make a difference at the grass-roots level.
We look forward to welcoming you in the
spirit of collegiality, professionalism and friendship.
Sincerely,
Susana Rapaport, MD, FAAP
